Prize Rules


The Linbury Prize is open to final year students and graduates from 2016 or 2017 from Theatre Design degree or postgraduate courses recognised on the website of the Society of British Theatre Designers ( or by the Association of Courses in Theatre Design.

Applications will be accepted from students of any nationality, provided they are officially resident in the UK and intend and have permission to remain so until the end of the year 2018.

Prizes and commissions

£2,000 for each of the 12 candidates (the finalists) selected for the Linbury Prize Exhibition. This is intended to cover expenses incurred in preparation for the Exhibition.

There will be four winners. Each receives a cash prize of £2,500.

The overall winner of the Linbury Prize for Stage Design 2017 will receive an additional £1,000 prize money.

The four winners will receive a commission to realise a production from the company for which they are chosen to work. The design commission fee is set at £4,500.

The Selection Process

The application period will open in May 2017
The deadline for applications will be 12pm, Monday 10 July 2017.
